Introducing Hosted Uptime Kuma
Today, September 3rd, we're launching our first public product: Hosted Uptime Kuma. Your own Uptime Kuma instance, live in seconds, isolated from everyone else's, and automatically updated, patched, and backed up. Here's why we built it.
We needed this ourselves
Both of us have spent years monitoring our own infrastructure, and our customers' infrastructure on top of that. We already knew and loved Uptime Kuma, the open-source monitoring tool: a clean dashboard, checks over HTTP(s), TCP, Ping, DNS and Push, notifications to Slack, Discord, Telegram, email and more, and public status pages built in. Choosing the tool was the easy part.
The hard part is where you run it. There are really only two options, and both have a catch:
- Status pages as a service. Products like Atlassian's Statuspage are great, but they get expensive fast for what is basically a status page and some checks.
- Self-hosting on your own VM. Cheap, but if you spin it up in the same environment you're monitoring, an outage can take down your monitoring along with everything else. The one tool that's supposed to tell you things are broken goes dark at exactly the wrong moment. And even when it works, you're now the one managing updates, backups, and patching.
We wanted a third option: Uptime Kuma, run properly, outside your own environment, by people who have built their tooling around running it well.
Built on Bananahost
This is the problem Bananahost, our automated deployment package, was built for. It gave us the tools to make each Uptime Kuma deployment easy, reliable, and logically isolated from every other instance. Your instance is yours alone, running on managed infrastructure in Europe, with:
- Automatic updates and security patches to keep you on a safe, current version
- Automatic backups, so an upgrade is never a gamble
- Full isolation from other customers' instances
- Your data stays yours, with easy export if you ever want to leave
No VM to babysit, no upgrades to worry about, and your monitoring lives outside the environment it's watching.
Try it
Hosted Uptime Kuma is live as of today. There's a free 24-hour trial, and no credit card is required to start.
